DAPO OLORUNYOMI is currently the Publisher of Premium Times, www.premiumtimesng.com, a news multimedia platform based in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.
Prior to this, he served as policy director and chief of staff at Nigeria’s foremost anti corruption agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
He also served at different times as editor at Radio Nigeria, The News magazine, African Guardian magazines, and NEXT newspapers. In 2005, he founded the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism [www.wscij.org] based in Lagos Nigeria.
His work as editor during the years of military dictatorship in Nigeria earned him the 1995 International Editor of the Year Award of the World Press Review; the 1996 PEN Center (West) Freedom to Write Award; Press Freedom Award (1996) of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) New York; and between 1999 and 2001.
He was inducted into the Diamond Awards for Media Excellence, DAME, Hall of Fame in 2017 and conferred with the Lifetime Achievement award, a year before; the Nigeria Union of Journalists also conferred him with the 2018 Press Freedom Award. He is currently vice president of the Board of CENOZO, the west African initiative on investigative journalism. He is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism.
He helped shepherd Nigeria’s leading investigative newsroom to be the first African newsroom to win a Pulitzer Prize in 2016 for its collaborative reporting on Panama Papers, and the Global Shinning Light Award of the Global Investigative Journalism Network in 2017.
He was educated at Obafemi Awolowo University of Ife, Ile-Ife, the Washington College of Law of the American University in Washington DC, and the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.
