Izak Minnaar is a media and elections consultant and trainer, currently focusing on journalism, elections, media freedom, access to information, open data and digital rights work in South Africa and around the continent. He worked at the South African Broadcasting Corporation as Editor: SABC Digital News until 2019. His journalism career spanned over 40 years in editorial coverage and newsroom leadership roles at print, broadcast and online media. He is a founding member of the South African National Editors' Forum and serves on the Press Council of South Africa and the SOS Public Broadcasting Coalition. He was also on the drafting teams of the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights 2017 Guidelines on Access to Information and Elections in Africa, and the 2019 Declaration of Principles on Freedom of Expression and Access to Information in Africa.
